BALTIMORE, MD: WellDoc has disseminated a paper published in the JMIR Research Protocols, depicting its framework for the treatment of chronic diseases using therapeutic technologies. The paper, entitled “Evidence-based mHealth Chronic Disease Mobile App Intervention Design: Development of a Framework,” elaborates on leveraging mobile technology to find cures for chronic diseases.
WellDoc’s mobile technology bridges the gap between people and the providers by enhancing physician-patient relationship to drive outcomes. The paper proposes that by integrating health behavior research, clinical trials and software technology, along with guidelines for producers of digital therapeutics apps, chronic disease management can be given a boost.
“This framework for the development of mobile health apps and digital therapeutics fills an important need for scalability, replicability and evidence-based information in medical mobile technology design,” said Anand K. The WellDoc framework is a seven step waterfall process that was originally designed to deal with type 2 diabetes. Now the framework has been customized to address other diseases like epilepsy, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, HER2+ breast cancer, and low back pain. It considers metrics, program objectives, changes in essential behaviors, individual experiences, evidence-based clinical and behavioral knowledge and other “value drivers” to create a digital therapeutics technology. Furthermore, the treatment also includes educational videos, tips, patient logbooks, real-time feedback, medication, and other valuable tools for changing health outcomes.
