As interoperability has become the key enabling factor in the healthcare IT continuum, the significance of HIE will further increase, paving way for new and improved methods to facilitate seamless information exchange.By facilitating easy sharing of data between providers, patients, and other stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem, HIE brings in multiple benefits. However, the true value of HIE lies in the standardization of data. Once it is standardized, this data can seamlessly integrate with multiple systems, including Electronic Medical Records, paving way for improved care. In a value-based reimbursement environment, this standardized data can further help providers meet the rising mandates for Federal incentive programs, improve the quality of care and curtail the costs involved in care delivery.Going forward, the HIE market is set to witness improvements around its three forms: First, the Directed Exchange where information exchange happens directly between care providers; second, the Query-based Exchange where providers will have the ability to request information about a patient from other providers; and third, the Consumer Mediated Exchange where patients will have the ability to aggregate and control the use of their own health information among various providers. While the technology, standards, and policies required to carry out all three forms of health information exchange are tested, and available today, success lies in how stakeholders can use its functionalities to meet their constantly evolving needs. In this edition of Healthcare Tech Outlook, we are featuring a list of best of the breed solutions available in the HIE market. The vendors featured here combine innovative strategies with powerful solutions that can positively impact your care delivery strategies.Let us know your thoughts.Channeling the Power of InformationVivian Murray
