Ciox's digital EMR connections and services-based retrieval of additional electronic data assure compliance with the Cure Act deadline.
Fremont, CA: The emergence of telemedicine has transformed the face of the healthcare business. The future of electronic health records will get centered on value-based care, and digital technologies have taken center stage. EHR software systems have become more widely used across the world. It has become an essential component of the healthcare ecosystem, with the ability to redefine patient care and make it easier for providers and physicians to give quality treatment using digital technology. The following are the trends that will shape the future.
"Ciox is committed to partnering with healthcare providers to improve the patient experience. Offering digital release of information to provide easy access to medical records is a large part of that commitment," said Pete McCabe, CEO of Datavant. "Due to data fragmentation, no single EMR or digital-only connection can access all of a patient's data. Ciox pairs our technology with a world-class services division, giving us the ability to fulfill patient requests that can't be completed through digital connections alone and helping providers ensure compliance with the Cures Act."

Ciox, a Datavant company, collaborates with health systems to effectively deliver patient-requested electronic health information (EHI) - a major component of the 21st Century Cures Act - as the industry leader in the compliant exchange of medical data. On October 6, 2022, the Cures Act's definition of EHI gets broadened to cover all EHI that is or will be in a specified record set (DRS). This larger definition complicates satisfying demands for patient records.
Ciox has enhanced Patient Request, an application allowing patients to request their data from anywhere, at any time, to assist healthcare providers in complying with the 21st Century Cures Act by offering patients simpler, faster access to their medical records. Patient Request now provides electronic retrieval of patient medical records from EMR systems via application programming interfaces (API). APIs offer a digital experience for patients by digitizing request input, record retrieval, and record distribution, significantly lowering turnaround times and providing patients with enhanced and remote expertise.
Almost 600,000 users have used the app to get their medical records in minutes. Turnaround times will get greatly decreased by using APIs for record retrieval.
In reaction to the closing of medical records offices during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ciox Patient Request was launched in 2020 to offer patients a contactless records request method. Since then, patients from over 1,000 healthcare provider sites use the program to get their medical information, with 95percent of patient users providing good feedback.
