While the healthcare sector has always championed and driven innovation, the COVID-19 pandemic has boosted the pace at which many technologies has evolved, even the ones that have been introduced very recently. Take patient monitoring devices for example. In the wake of COVID-19, wearable sensors have been increasingly being used by healthcare practitioners and the patient’s alike to monitor health on a daily basis. These patient monitoring solutions, when integrated with modern healthcare technology, are subsequently proving their mettle as clinically effective ways of symptom management. These tools are also enabling healthcare organisations to remotely monitor patients with chronic conditions by optimising patients’ access to care while also reducing the cost and enhancing the quality of care. But, despite such a world of difference cutting-edge and sensor-enabled patient monitoring devices provide, one small roadblock to its far wider adoption is around managing the huge volume of patient data and drawing deeper insights into patient data. Helping healthcare institutions solve both the impediments is where Leitwert cements its cornerstone.

Led by Miro Kach—co-founder and CEO of Leitwert—the company is currently pushing the envelope for a new era of sensor-enabled patient monitoring solutions by bridging the gap between wearable sensors and data applications. Leitwert also understands that data captured by wearable devices are highly sensitive— especially in health-related applications. State-of-the-art data security is a necessity to launch a new product. To this end, Leiwert has already created ConceRTOS—a modern development framework for embedded systems that focus on seamless device-to-cloud connectivity from device firmware over gateways to an open device and data management platform.

ConceRTOS is specifically optimised for wearable sensors. It consists of a hard real-time operating system (RTOS) including libraries, an operating system abstraction layer (OSAL), and a hardware abstraction layer (HAL) to provide maximum flexibility and accelerate product development. Owing to this framework, Leitwert can draw from its know-how and technology stack to provide complete data sovereignty with on-premises solutions and end-to-end encryption of data streams.

What’s more? Since these wearable devices are built on top of modular firmware, the devices can also be used as part of a wider network of wearable sensors, wherein, hospitals can monitor their patients 24/7. To facilitate this provision even further, Leitwert is currently developing a single interface called the Device Hub. It is a device and data management platform, which can be deployed on-premise and provides open interfaces to directly integrate with third-party devices, analytics tools, and clinical information systems. Once the interface is made available to healthcare organisations, they can integrate any medical wearables into their workflow and continuously monitor patients’ vital signs throughout their facilities. Together with mobile gateways, Device Hub will allow caregivers to automate the readout of wearable devices worn by patients in any location. And the gathered data will help in gaining deeper, real-time insight into patients’ health status before, during, and after treatment, thereby increasing quality, efficiency, and patient safety all at the same time.

Moving ahead towards such a well-planned future, Leitwert is now focusing on enhancing its technological capabilities with the advancements in the field of IoT and sensor devices and provide a flexible and measurable approach that makes real-time patient monitoring a success. And along the way, Leitwert is also is experiencing a high demand for its robust IoT platform and, fortified with its rich and extensive experience in the domain, the company is ready to take this challenge head-on.

Description
Leitwert— is pushing the envelope for these new proactive delivery systems by using wearable sensors and IoT devices for a seamless solution from firmware via connectivity to device and data management. For this, the company built a modular technology platform through their own know-how and technology stack, to provide complete data sovereignty with on-premises solutions and end-to-end encryption of data streams. Leitwert’s clients can deploy their own algorithms and manage data access rights. Leitwert is also developing a single interface called the Device Hub, where in hospitals can integrate any medical wearables into their workflow and continuously monitor patients vital signs.
