Broadening the Scope of Digital Medicine

Telemedicine, generally understood as remote consultations alone, fall short in providing patients with optimal care. Despite its broad applications in the wake of Covid-19, telemedicine could not establish itself as a replacement for in-person consultation with a physician. The situation has been particularly challenging for chronically ill patients. After all, conditions such as diabetes, stroke, cancer, and dementia already by far claim more lives than Covid-19. Further, with the world population above the age of 60 expected to rise to 2.1 billion by 2050, the demand for medical services will significantly increase. At the same time, the number of experienced medical personnel is expected to decline, which will, in turn, grow the demand for highquality medical services in the next 2-3 years and beyond.

Existing digital medicine solutions can only partially address these imbalances, and there continues to be a growing need for better quality care—remote and home-based. CarnaLife System combines a telemedicine module and advanced AI-based data analytics algorithms that allow clinicians to diagnose and monitor their patients and conduct consultations at any time and location. The application provides a unique opportunity to combine medical consultations with in-depth diagnostics supported by more than 20 types of CE and additionally FDA-approved medical devices whose outputs can be analyzed 24/7. Such a unique combination of teleconsultation software with a range of remote monitoring capabilities enables long-term, indepth, value-based healthcare.

Further, due to its advanced data analytics and algorithms, CarnaLife System has been certified in Europe as a Class II b diagnostic support medical device. The offering leverages Microsoft Azure cloud to store data securely and enables collaborations with tools like Microsoft Teams.

As such, apart from CarnaLife System, the company also offers technology-based solutions such as CarnaLife Holo and HoloComm. CarnaLife Holo is a certified innovative software technology that supports the planning and execution of complex medical procedures. With the help of Microsoft’s HoloLens 2 goggles, clinicians can see in real space a 3D hologram that reflects imaged anatomical area. They can also freely interact with the displayed hologram. CarnaLife Holo is now present in 18 medical facilities worldwide and has been used in over 120 medical procedures thus far. HoloComm is an engaging platform for the remote 3D presentation of products, content, and relevant product data that can be widely used in industry, e.g. during remote audits. This product also uses Microsoft HoloLens 2 goggles.
