Healthcare Enhanced with AI

Healthcare Tech Outlook | Thursday, November 29, 2018

The healthcare landscape is fast growing today. This growth has brought about a significant amount of medical data overburdening the medical centers. This, therefore, acts as a stimulus for pharmaceutical companies to start adopting AI technology into the working of their enterprises.

The Artificial Intelligence platform is not only used to monitor, analyze, and store medical data, but also helps the doctors and other medical practitioners to make decisions based on that data. Two major medical enterprises—Arterys and Astarte Medical —have successfully adopted AI in their functioning. The Arterys pharmaceutical company has used an AI system to study the extensive medical data stored in X-rays, CT Scans, MRIs, ultrasounds, and PET scans. These scans are then used to train algorithms to examine the different spots as shown in the recorded images, which may otherwise miss the human eye. This software then analyzes the larger patterns and helps the doctor to determine its cure. These AI assistants can not only inform the doctors of the disease but also automate the tasks of data collection and data referring. This allows the medical practitioners to have a more productive interaction with the patients, discussing their disease and the procedure for a cure.

The software called the Artery’s 4D Flow helps the doctors to get a better understanding of the blood flow into the four chambers of the heart and also the health of the patient’s heart. This software helps to provide a precise analysis of the patient’s current condition and avoids distinguishing opinions from various doctors. The AI software used by Astarte Medical is called the NICUtrition. This particular software is designed to study the digestive health of premature infants. Astarte is also working on developing an ML system that can assist in the feeding and antibiotic treatment of these babies. This software uses the data from the medical reports and examines it to verify the health of an infant’s gut. The MAGI gut health score also helps to identify which infant is at a higher risk of an unhealthy digestive system. This mechanism allows the doctors to correctly understand the diet to be given to these premature babies for their healthy growth and sustenance.

Both these AI-powered mechanisms have brought an impactful change in the field of medical science and have helped to create a healthier and medically-consistent environment. Thus, the adoption of AI is a necessity to provide cost-effective and efficient medical services to all.
