Implementing AI for an Enhanced Healthcare

Healthcare Tech Outlook | Friday, November 30, 2018

Soon, AI will revolutionize every sector of healthcare. It is a fact that health care will be the leading industrial area of the fourth industrial revolution and the main catalyst will be AI. According to IDC statistical analysis, online data is expected to reach up to 44 zettabytes by 2020.

AI at present enhances healthcare research and studies to sort out through the massive data present. Recently workshops are hosted by AAMI and BSI, to lay the groundwork for future concepts and collaboration for safe implementation of AI in healthcare sectors. As the field is in its infancy, there are issues which need to be solved at the initial stage itself, and this is where the standards are essential.

The world is yet to witness the real “AI.” AI in health care and medicine redirects and organizes treatment plans for the patients, and provides necessary information that is needed for healthcare providers to make the right decision. Most people think that AI replaces the human presence, but AI as an application simply aids in processing any task or program.

AI applications have the ability to address crucial health issues but are limited by the quality of available data available. The biggest challenge with AI is in understanding the fundamental role of data. Data used by AI applications in the health care system is considered to be sensitive and private that are subjected to legal controls. Bioethics, Nuffield council suggested that initiatives that raise privacy concerns should go beyond compliance to take account of people’s expectations about how their data is used.

Shortly, the AI systems will become highly advanced and carry out a wider range of tasks. AI can bring a drastic change which the world hasn’t thought about. There is a need for researchers to be equipped with relevant skills and knowledge to evaluate and make the best use of AI. The world has almost entered into the third wave of AI that normalizes the context of various data and generates novel hypotheses. This evaluates enormous data sets, identifies statistical patterns, and creates the algorithm patterns to explain. Third wave AI can automate any repetitive manual tasks and can teach what it learns.
