For instance, in 2020, ransomware affected as many as 34 percent of healthcare businesses, with 65 percent of attacks succeeding in obtaining the desired ransom amount. Over a third of them paid the ransom, fueling future attacks.
Healthcare data is crucial to these institutions; without it, they would collapse. Ransomware attacks are thus more likely to result in larger rewards for thieves. For as long as they continue to store patient information digitally, healthcare companies will need a ransomware contingency plan.
Useful Programs for Mobile Devices
In 2022, mobile medical apps pose a further risk to the confidentiality of patient health records. While the rapid growth of telehealth adoption (up 50 percent in the first quarter of 2020 alone) has improved patients' access to healthcare, it has also introduced new dangers. Mobile devices now allow access to sensitive medical data despite their sometimes inadequate protection.
The patient faces many of these dangers. Users who don't take sensible precautions, such as using multi-factor authentication and staying off public Wi-Fi, could risk their health records. It's incumbent on app makers and the businesses that employ them to foresee this activity and provide appropriate safeguards.
A Deficit in Interoperability
Interoperability issues may arise when hospitals adopt more digital services. According to the survey, sixty-three percent of hospitals and other medical facilities have had a security problem caused by unmanaged Internet of Things devices. These gadgets increase hospitals' attack surfaces, contribute to IT sprawl, and frequently come without adequate built-in security safeguards. A weakening of IoT security requirements could compromise the security of sensitive medical information in 2022 and beyond.
