mTuitive and PathPresenter produce structured pathology reporting and compliance with digital pathology workflow.
FREMONT, CA: “As digital adoption in pathology grows, healthcare providers will need to develop clear strategies for effectively managing the workload that faces the dwindling pathologist population. Automating and standardizing the reporting process will increase efficiency by enabling pathologists to focus on more complex tasks. Ultimately this will be essential in providing the short-term ROI providers seek,” says Imogen Fitt, Market Analyst at Signify Research. PathPresenter Corporation and mTuitive have partnered to improve the pathologist reporting experience. This partnership will bring together advanced digital tools, artificial intelligence algorithms, and synoptic reporting to generate high-quality reports that are accurate, thorough, and data-driven. The two groups pool their medical and technical knowledge to ensure hospitals and laboratories meet national standards and drive vital analytical and reporting efforts further down the line. The latest SMART-on-FHIR technology allows intuitive's flagship product, CAP eFRM, to seamlessly interact with PathPresenter's image management system, resulting in more streamlined processes for end users.
The agreement strengthens the close interaction between PathPresenter and mTuitive, enabling PathPresenter to prepopulate fields in CAP eFRM with information pulled straight from the digital viewer. In fact, needed fields and other activities strengthen and ensure the completeness of these reports, which can be directly signed out in PathPresenter, xPert, or the laboratory's information system.

In the PathPresenter image management system, a customized pre-analytic workflow begins by prioritizing cases to be reviewed. Using AI algorithms executed on the photos, context-aware data is retrieved, and essential diagnostic values are prepopulated into reporting protocols in CAP eFRM. CAP eFRM enables the pathologist to finish their diagnosis and generate a detailed synoptic report that can be signed and delivered to the APLIS. During the analytical phase, PathPresenter's sophisticated real-time tools, third-party plug-ins, and CAP eFRM exchange real-time results. For future usage, discrete, coded data is stored alongside annotated photos. The structured data in CAP eFRM and PathPresenter can be explored and used for reporting and analytics, downstream sharing with data lakes and registries, and a variety of services such as identifying images to train machine learning models, validating AI results, and recognizing appropriate tissue for research projects.
“Automating reporting workflow will be a boon to digital pathology adoption in institutions,” says Patrick Myles, CEO of PathPresenter. “Partnering with reporting workflow leader, mTuitive, is an important step forward to help deliver on the promise of increased efficiency in digital workflows.”
“This partnership will unleash the power of the data that pathologists collect while also continuing to make for more accurate and more efficient reporting,” states Colin Murphy, CEO of mTuitive.
mTuitive and PathPresenter adhere to the criteria established by organizations such as the College of American Pathologists (CAP) that promote optimal reporting practices and compliance with accreditation requirements. The information acquired by the digital viewer and within the reports can also be SNOMED-CT tagged to facilitate improved communication between physicians and an even more efficient workflow inside the laboratory's system.
