How does robotically assisted surgery function?
A surgeon trained on the equipment sits at a console and manipulates multiple robotic arms holding scalpels, a high-definition 3D video camera, and other surgical instruments.
For instance, many cancer institutions in the United States, notably University Hospitals in Cleveland, began implementing the Monarch Platform in 2021. This gadget is another robotic-assisted instrument used to take biopsies from difficult-to-reach nodules in the lungs of patients.
The objective of this robotic surgery is that early lung cancer diagnoses will lead to earlier therapies and better long-term outcomes for cancer patients.

Could AI Lead to a Cure for Cancer?
Using AI, cancer researchers are making progress in early cancer diagnosis, developing new cancer treatments, and preventing cancer tumor growth.
AI is computer software that executes a useful task based on instructions. These instructions, known as algorithms, act similarly to pie recipe instructions.
For instance, in 2020, researchers at Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic, among other cancer facilities in Ohio, conducted a restricted trial to determine if AI could predict whether immunotherapy increased cancer progression in a subset of lung cancer patients. Using AI to analyze tissue CT scans revealed biomarkers that might identify which of the research's 109 non-small cell lung cancer patients will experience tumor growth in response to immunotherapy.
Researchers are using this technology to train computers to identify cancer and other diseases using AI. AI could enhance the visual quality of medical scans produced by MRI and CT devices. By enhancing the accuracy of the scan, patients' radiation exposure would be reduced. In 1965, researchers created DENDRAL, one of the earliest AI programs, which assisted scientists in discovering unknown types of drugs.
AI will also be a more cost-effective option for drug discovery and development. AI systems can identify novel applications for existing pharmaceuticals and decrease the need for costly clinical research.
