SafetySpect, a manufacturer of inspection and UVC disinfection systems, is meeting these public safety requirements. Its technology is designed to identify basic pathogens, bacteria, viruses, and fungi, and protect people from invisible contaminants in shared spaces such as dining centers or in smaller patient/operating rooms to reduce the spread of illness.

Most germ-detecting devices use fluorescence-based contamination detection and only work in dark environments. The new CSI-D+ handheld scanner from SafetySpect leverages flow rate sense imaging under ambient lighting. This device combines detection, disinfection, documentation, and verification in a single handheld system.
CSI-D+ contains LEDs that can help detect near-invisible contamination. The proprietary UV light system in CSI-D+ neutralizes viruses and bacteria in two to five seconds.
SafetySpect’s CSI-D+ handheld technology works for small and large spaces with limited cleaning staff, facilitating fast turnaround times. Sanitization checklists are designed to instantly adapt to routine spot checks, overnight cleanings, or periodic deeper cleans, efficiently addressing high-risk zones within the allotted time.
The technology is offered to healthcare environments such as hospitals and long-term care facilities, restaurants, military kitchens, and any setting where it is important to assess surface cleanliness. Third-party quality assurance inspection companies can leverage SafetySpect’s assistance in providing more accurate data to their clients as well.
While onboarding, the SafetySpect team configures a floor plan on a web dashboard and identifies the client's high-risk surfaces and rooms after discussing the adjustments that need to be made. It makes a tab containing the recent updates on the modifications, which is transferred to the scanner. When inspectors arrive at work, they can turn on the system, and the associated tab will appear on their scanner, enabling them to scan the surfaces one at a time. The scanning results are wirelessly uploaded to the cloud, where relevant personnel can access the data. They can leverage it to manage the cleanliness of the different spaces.
“Our team is a mix of seasoned business people, as well as scientists and engineers with decades of expertise; this makes us a unique solution provider in the industry,” states Dr. Fartash Vasefi, chief technology officer of SafetySpect.
SafetySpect’s effectiveness was demonstrated when it collaborated with a chain of long-term care facilities. It conducted a pilot study to gather information and record fluorescence photos of contamination on surfaces. SafetySpect trained its proprietary machine learning algorithm with pictures to detect contamination automatically without operators manually scanning the screen. While conducting the pilot research, the crew discovered one of the basic facilities was not as clean as the management had expected. The SafetySpect team created a visual report for the headquarters to make it easier to communicate the issue with the site manager and determine the necessary corrective actions to improve cleanliness.
Besides its patented technology, SafetySpect has a cooperative research and development arrangement with the USDA ARS group and the US Army Troops Center. It also has many university collaborators testing its system under various circumstances and validating the deactivation of multiple pathogens, including foodborne pathogens and influenza. The findings are published in peer-reviewed journals.
SafetySpect is revolutionizing the contamination, sanitation, and infection sector, making the world a safer place one scan at a time.
