Bipan Chand is a highly accomplished healthcare professional with over 20 years of experience in clinical practice, operational excellence and healthcare delivery. Beginning his career with surgical training at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Foundation, he specialized in evidence-based gastrointestinal surgery, focusing on enhancing patient outcomes. Continuing as a staff surgeon and advanced endoscopist for close to a decade at the Cleveland Clinic, he continued mentoring trainees and conducting cutting edge procedures until he was recruited to join the surgical department at Loyola University in Chicago. At Loyola for a decade allowed him to hone his expertise in healthcare systems, payer dynamics and operational strategy, fostering a passion for improving care delivery and championing the model of service line directed care and resource allocation. This focus in digestive diseases allowed him to transition into the role of Director of Digestive Health for the Ascension Illinois market. As Chief Medical Officer at HealthNautica, he leads transformative initiatives to enhance patient access, streamline communication across healthcare systems and drive measurable improvements, including reduced cancellations, increased procedural volumes and optimized outcomes.

In an interview with CIO Review, Bipan Chand discusses HealthNautica’s mission to improve patient access and communication in healthcare. He highlights the company’s role in streamlining care, reducing inefficiencies and improving outcomes.
Can you explain how the HealthNautica MedTech company came into existence and what it offers?
HealthNautica was founded in the early 2000s with a focus on improving patient access and communication between healthcare systems and patients. Previously, coordinating care involved inefficient back-and-forth exchanges via faxes or phone calls between physicians, hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. HealthNautica revolutionized this process by introducing a portal that streamlined communication, minimized interruptions, and reduced errors, making it easier to navigate patient and office workflows into hospital settings. This approach enhances access, reduces cancellations, improves surgical or procedural volumes, and ultimately delivers better patient outcomes.
What are the current customer trends or emerging technologies in the MedTech industry you believe will significantly influence and shape the future of healthcare over the next decade?
I believe in the next decade, healthcare will focus heavily on seamless care coordination. Companies like HealthNautica will play a crucial role in enhancing communication across the entire patient care process.
AI-driven technologies will ensure that when tests are completed, all relevant parties like the patient, hospital and physician are promptly informed, streamlining the communication flow. This approach will help patients stay informed about their care requirements and ensure alignment among all stakeholders. We at HealthNautica focus on the continuum of healthcare deliviery.
I think the technology that we’re going to see in the future is going to improve scheduling, care coordination and minimize some of the waste by optimizing the limited resources that we have in healthcare. With the current shortages of physicians, nurses and other ancillary staff, advanced technology will be essential to bridge these gaps and maintain efficient care delivery.
How do you ensure that patients remain at the center of HealthNautica’s focus, especially when implementing these trends to achieve success?
Physicians often enter the profession with a core focus on patient care and we at HealthNautica, being physiciandriven, deeply understand this commitment. To improve patient experiences, the company emphasizes seamless processes, such as providing clarity on upcoming procedures and ensuring accessibility for patients who may face language barriers. HealthNautica’s technologies prioritize the patient as the central stakeholder while also addressing the complexities of hospital systems and insurance payer requirements. The organization strives to enhance understanding, streamline procedures and create a more effective healthcare experience for all parties involved by aligning patient needs with the resources of hospitals and physicians.
What advice would you give to aspiring medical leaders who aim to make a significant impact in their field?
I believe that to make an impact in today’s healthcare, particularly from a physician’s standpoint, one must constantly evolve. My primary focus for the first two decades of my career was optimizing patient care, clinical outcomes and understanding what it takes to achieve high patient satisfaction and exceptional outcomes. While this should always remain the primary focus, emerging trends in technology now require us to enhance the seamlessness of the patient experience along with maintaining the same commitment to outcomes, safety and quality care. For physicians and others in healthcare, I recommend a commitment to continuous evolution—both personally and in their training—to ensure success not just for today but for the next generation as well.
